Lim's Nonya Hut
Malaysian$$
Despite canteen-style furniture and minimal decoration, the Hut remains popular. It serves authentic Nonya-style cuisine that's cheap: little wonder the kitchen is pumping. The nasi lemak features a flavoursome dome of coconut-scented rice that's nicely balanced by a heap of spicy, crunchy peanuts and cool slices of cucumber. The gulai tumis (sweet and sour fish curry) is zingy with ginger (you might like to add a chilli kick), while a slightly tough beef rendang has a lovely rich tomato base. The well-regarded kuih (sweets) include bright green ondeh-ondeh dusted with coconut.
