Sydneysiders love a good food opening, and they'll be unwrapping more than eggs this Easter. Manly Pavilion has rebooted in time for the holidays, the harbourside jewel given a major facelift by its new operators.

Patterned green wallpaper, indoor plants and a new coastal look has been unveiled by Andrew and Pip Goldsmith, who have dotted Sydney with beach-scented Boathouse venues from Palm Beach to Rose Bay.

Andrew Goldsmith says Manly Pavilion has much in common with Barrenjoey House, which they relaunched in late 2018. There are small plates (and large), as well as some good news for Sydney's queue-weary: reservations.

The "small" menu has crab toast ($11), while the "raw" section sweeps from kingfish ceviche ($27) to steak tataki ($28). Mains includes prawn laksa ($36) and a luxe cold seafood platter ($120). Executive chef James Brownrigg closes the menu at the dessert end with bombe Alaska ($38) and a cute "lemon" with finger lime, yuzu and white chocolate ($14).

"We love the site," Goldsmith says. "We looked at it before we opened (The Boathouse) at Shelly Beach."

Despite its prized position, Manly Pavilion closed in 2012 and sat empty for four years before a new operator rebooted it in 2016. Goldsmith says when the pandemic hit, an opportunity popped up to have another nibble, and the Boathouse Group was finally able to buy it.

The restaurateur says the first days of trade have seen early favourites emerging.

"The pineapple skewers and octopus rolls are fun, and the salmon skin crackers have been popular," Goldsmith says.
