Bonnie pizzeria among new year changes at All Saints Estate in Wahgunyah
A bright and airy pizzeria, Bonnie, has materialised over the new year at All Saints Estate in the Rutherglen wine region. Best known for its imposing red castle and fine-dining Terrace restaurant, the estate's new casual eatery is a step into the future for one of the region's most eminent addresses.
It's part of a larger winery makeover by owners the Brown family that will include a new cellar door and flagship restaurant, expected to be completed by May. For now, Bonnie is the sole dining option at All Saints.
The family-friendly restaurant, in a 1960s-era bottling facility next to the castle, seats 60 inside. Recently home to Indigo Food Co, the building has been renovated into a bright warehouse-style space by Techne Architecture, opening up to a lake on one side surrounded by tables and chairs for 70 guests, while another set of double doors offers views of shiraz vines.
Wood-fired pizzas highlight ingredients from near and far, whether it's Milawa blue cheese paired with potato, onion and walnuts, Mount Ophir Estate olives alongside anchovies and capers, or jamon with tomato, rocket and bocconcini. Salumi, cheese, wedge salad and Gundowring ice-cream bookend the menu.
An approachable drinks list includes magnums of estate rosé (the only wine above $60), bottles from the Browns' St Leonards label, beers from Bridge Road Brewers in Beechworth and Peroni for good measure.
Open Tue-Sun noon-3pm, Thu-Sun 6pm-9pm.
