A sandwich star lands in Malvern, from Leonardo's Pizza and Moby alum
Stacked sandwiches have well and truly overtaken burgers as the hand-held fad food of the 2020s. Last week, Altona welcomed deli-sandwich double hitter Matteo's Deli on Pier Street.
This week it's Malvern's turn to receive Stan's Deli and Sandwiches, serving New York-inspired hot and cold rolls, Small Batch Coffee, and deli products such as Chappy's chips, StrangeLove sodas and Birdsnake chocolate.
The team has good credentials. Alex Gavioli is ex-Moby, Aaron Trotman works for cult alcohol-free wine brand NON, which will be sold in the deli; Guy Bentley part-owns Leonardo's Pizza Palace, and Todd Vanneste is behind Frankie's Tortas & Tacos and Weekdays Design Studio, which is responsible for Stan's minimalist fitout in checked green tiles.
They're charging into the bread boom, offering all the trending favourites – mortadella, provolone, olive and artichoke; an eggplant parma and a strong-sounding entry into the chicken sandwich wars, with condiments including salted green tomatoes, swiss gruyere and herb mayo. A pork and fennel breakfast muffin with curried egg and cheese has intrigue, too.
Open Tue-Sat 6.30am-3pm; Sun 8am-3pm at 248B Glenferrie Road, Malvern, stansdeli.com.au.
