Japanese

On any given evening along trendy Racecourse Road, Hosokawa is always bustling. Even on an otherwise lonely Tuesday night, tables are full, ensuring booking is a must. The menu is just as lively, running to some six pages of sushi, sashimi, noodles and meats from the grill, all constantly delivering above par. Well suited to sharing, plates come fresh and fast from the kitchen, with tempting offerings including hand-shaped gyoza dumplings, twice-fried chicken and tender salt-fried squid. A selection of dainty sushi rolls round out the meal, while their signature sashimi platter has the usual morsels of tuna and salmon accompanied by sweet scallops and fabulously bold slivers of mackerel. The house sake is unusually refined and, served chilled, offers an excellent pairing with the delicate cuisine. Service can be a little hit and miss when running at full capacity, but overall meals are delivered quickly, with a bowl of complimentary endamame a nice gesture.
