Bone broth, collagen, kimchi: What this beauty entrepreneur eats in a day
Beauty entrepreneur and founder of The Beauty Chef Carla Oates, 50, shares her day on a plate.
6am A cup of warm water with lemon juice and a peppermint tea.
7.30am One teaspoon of The Beauty Chef Glow Ageless and one tablespoon of collagen mixed in water, followed by paleo muesli with kefir and fresh raspberries.
10.45am Two cups of herbal tea, some carrot sticks with hummus and a handful of tamari almonds.
12.30pm Fried tempeh with salad greens, goats’ cheese, a tahini miso and apple cider vinegar dressing, and a tablespoon of kimchi. Later I have a chai latte and a few squares of 70 per cent dark chocolate.
5.30pm A cup of warm bone broth.
6.15pm Dinner of roast chicken, some sweet potato wedges with lots of herbs, and asparagus with tomatoes, olives and ghee.
Dr Joanna McMillan says:
Top marks for … Nailing the nutritious snacks! The healthy fats in the hummus help you to absorb the antioxidants in the carrots. The almonds give you the recommended handful of nuts, shown to lower the risk of heart disease, and the dark chocolate is antioxidant-rich.
If you keep eating like this you’ll … Look after your gut health thanks to your nice combo of fibres and fermented foods. This has the potential to positively impact both physical and mental health.
Why don’t you try … Swapping the ghee for extra virgin olive oil, which delivers not only healthy fats but a wealth of polyphenols and squalene, benefitting heart, brain, gut and skin health.
