Grand Hotel
13/20
Modern Australian$$
Here is a pleasant place plonked in suburban Armidale amid modest homes and opposite an Ugg boot shop. The dining room is friendly and airy and opens onto a covered deck with a good view of the pub car park (and the crown of a hill in the distance). The meals come quickly enough and are a cut above standard pub fare. A tasty standout on the day we visited was the grilled Cajun perch served with baby bok choy, asparagus, sesame oil and tempura prawns. The wine list is not overly long, but it offers more by the glass than many pubs.
