TWO men accused of being part of an alleged hit-and-run in Alice Springs, where a man died as a result last year, have fronted court.

On October 16, 2020, four people aged from 19- to 13-years-old, were arrested and charged after the allegedly stolen vehicle they were travelling in allegedly went through a red traffic light at the Larapinta intersection, and collided with a man riding his motorbike.

The vehicle failed to stop at the scene, where 47-year-old Shane Powell suffered life threatening injuries, which he later died from.

Three people aged 19-, 16- and 13-years-old were arrested after they attempted to flee the allegedly stolen car, which was spiked by a police tyre deflation device on Grevilla Drive on the night.

The following day, a fourth person, a 15-year-old male, was identified and arrested by detectives from the Alice Springs Criminal Investigation Branch.

Mr Powell died a week after he was flown to Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) in a critical condition.
