NT POLICE have arrested two juveniles, including one as young as 12, after they were allegedly caught driving a stolen car in Palmerston.

NT Police Northern Watch Commander Acting Senior Sergeant Andrew Caruana said the car was reported stolen from a Bakewell home after someone allegedly used the resident’s spare keys to used to get into the house while he was out.

“At sometime between 3pm and 9pm yesterday, an unlawful entry occurred at a residential address at Bakewell, Palmerston,” he said.

“The victim left his home, ensuring to lock all doors and leaving a spare key in an unlocked shed.

“The victim returned to his residence at about 9pm to find his sliding door has been opened, items removed from the house and his vehicle, keys and car stolen.”

Snr Sgt Caruana said NT Police had come across the car later during a nightly patrol.

“That evening, while police were conducting patrols of The Hub Palmerston, they’ve come across the stolen vehicle driving on Maluka Dr where it was apprehended,” he said.

“A 16-year-old male driver and a 12-year-old male passenger were apprehended by police.”

Police investigations are ongoing.
