Despite the well behaved masses, police are investigating two CBD assaults in the early hours of January 1.
The first was at 12.25am on Nuttall Pl near Shadforth Ln when a 24-year-old man was hit in the head from behind and knocked unconscious.
He was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital in a stable condition.
Territory Duty Superintendent Greg Pusterla said police were investigating the circumstances around the assault and whether it was provoked or not.
