BRUSH off that hangover and make the most of the first day of 2021 by taking a dip in Mindil Beach Casino Resort’s Infinity pool.

The casino will host a pool party for the next three days to help people celebrate the new year in style.

Sisters Breanna and Matisse Gabbert made the most of the sunshine on Thursday and lazed by the Infinity pool.

“It’s lovely, bit of a party atmosphere and everyone has cocktails and there’s quite a few people in the pool,” Breanna said.

A Mindil Beach Casino Resort spokeswoman said they would have DJs on the decks each night.

“Spend the day blissfully lounging on a sun bed, swimming in the glistening pool, and chilling to the smooth poolside tunes from Matt Bern, DJ Hoops, plus Kane Rayner — half of ‘Rubber People’ who are one of the hottest Australian DJ acts right now. And if one day isn’t enough, return to Infinity on Saturday and Sunday and do it all again,” the spokeswoman said.

It’s not the only pool party happening in Darwin with Discovery nightclub hosting a New Year’s Day party at the Youth Shack.

Pubs are also expected to be open on Friday for your hangover counter meal.

But if downing a drink and parmy after a big night out isn’t your style there’s plenty of other things to do.

It may be hard to get a coffee or brunch spot on Friday with only a select number of cafes trading.

They include Sweet Brew and Co in Stuart Park, Groove Cafe in Nightcliff and Fresh Point Co that has venues in Parap and Palmerston.

If you want to beat the heat and have a more relaxed day, cinemas at both Casuarina Square and The Gateway Palmerston will be open.

Both shopping centres will also be open but only select stores, such as grocery stores and major chains such as Kmart. The region’s pools will be closed on Friday but Leanyer Water Park is open.

The Palmerston Water Park and Wave Lagoon will also be open.

– New Year’s Day Recovery Session at Mindil Beach Casino Resort

Head on down to the casino pool from 10am.

– NYD saucy pool party at the Youth Shack Backpackers

Hosted by Discovery Darwin, the fun kicks off at 3pm and will continue until 4am

– 1st Friday Chrome Bumper Display by the Northern Territory Motoring Council

Head on down to Francis Bay Fisherman’s Wharf from 6pm to check out done up cars.

The shopping centre is closed however select venues are open, including Coles, Woolworths, Kmart and various food outlets.

Event Cinemas is open.

– Gateway Palmerston

Select centre stores are open including Woolworths, BIG W and Event Cinemas.

– Palmerston Shopping Centre

Most shops are closed, however Coles and Target are open.

– Sweetbrew and Co – Dining Room

They are one of the few coffee shops open New Year’s Day from 7am – 2pm with full service from 9am.

– Groove Cafe and Gear

Serving coffee, food and bloody Marys from 8am.

– Fresh Point Co Palmerston and Parap

Serving up coffee and their signature pancakes from 8am to 3pm.

The region’s pools will be closed today but Leanyer Water Park is open

The Palmerston Water Park and Wave Lagoon will also be open today.
