UPDATE: The Darwin Waterfront’s Recreation Lagoon and beach area has been closed yet again after new test results indicated a decline in water quality.

The lagoon is being closed as a precautionary measure after the Darwin Waterfront Corporation received these test results on Thursday afternoon.

Recent extreme heavy rainfall and dense cloud cover is likely to have impacted the water quality conditions in the Recreation Lagoon, as experienced in previous Wet Seasons.

Daily testing will continue to be undertaken in order to monitor conditions and the lagoon will reopen when water quality is returned to a high standard.

EARLIER: Darwin Waterfront’s Recreation Lagoon and beach area will reopen today after a week-long closure over water quality concerns.

A Darwin Waterfront Corporation spokesman said the lagoon reopens on Thursday, December 31 2020 from 9am-2pm.

The Aqua Park Pty Ltd will reopen on Friday, January 1 2021 from 10am.

The lagoon was temporarily closed last Thursday as a precautionary measure after test results indicated a decline in water quality after recent heavy rainfall.
