POLICE in Alice Springs have congratulated New Year’s Eve revellers after most managed to see in the new year with relatively good behaviour.

Southern Watch Commander Shaun Furniss said most people seemed to be well behaved in Alice Springs overnight.

“We’ve had a really good night down here,” he said.

“We only had a couple of licenced premises in town open on New Year’s Eve, one was the (Lasseters) casino, and the other was Uncles Tavern, and we’ve had very limited interactions with anyone there, so it’s been really good.”

Emergency services were called out to a road crash outside the Lasseters on Stephens Rd at about 9pm on New Year’s Eve.

In Darwin, police have been out in force conducting roadside breath testing stops overnight and also this morning.
