The owners of a popular dessert bar in Palmerston have been left with a hefty $5000 repair bill after thieves targeted the business early this morning.

The owners of a Palmerston dessert bar have been left with a hefty $5000 repair bill after thieves targeted the business this morning.

Police are investigating after Asal’s Cafe & Dessert Bar at Oasis Shopping Village was broken into at about 12.30am on Monday.

Co-owners Justin Drennan said the thieves smashed open the front door and took the staff tip box along with a laptop and mobile phone.

“We’re probably looking at excess of 5000 loss in our business,” he said.

“It is the first time for us but personally in this current rampant crime situation in Darwin this was expected to happen to us.

“It’s time to either get tougher on youth crime or move our businesses down south we’re this vandalism and break ins isn’t tolerated.”
