A POPULAR social media page providing crime updates in the Top End has been shut down by Facebook.

Daily Crime Updates Darwin NT, which had thousands of followers, disappeared from Facebook on Saturday.

The NT News understands the page administrator later posted: “Temporarily disabled but could be forever. Lots of inciting of violence on there, hard to keep up, even with two moderators …”

The NT News understands the page was taken offline after a local resident initially posted to the page a video of an alleged ‘Palmo Boys’ member during a citizen’s arrest.

That post, which didn’t identify anyone, attracted about 1300 reactions.

It is understood the same poster went on to post pictures of the same ‘Palmo Boy’ and his friends and called for the formation of a vigilante group to find them and bash them.

One photo of the ‘Palmo Boys’ member and two of his friends was then republished in an administrator’s post, identifying the juvenile’s involvement in youth court.

The administrator started a new page in the same vein, called Northern Territory Crime Updates, yesterday.

It already had 1,400 members by Monday morning.
