A MAN has been charged after allegedly assaulting another man with a knife, leaving him seriously injured.

According to NT Police, the 37-year-old was in a fight in Parap with the alleged victim before it escalated and he allegedly assaulted him with a knife before fleeing the scene.

The victim, also aged 37, suffered a serious injury to his stomach and was taken to hospital. He is now in a stable condition after having surgery.

Later that day, police found the alleged offender in Palmerston. He was arrested and charged with intentionally causing serious harm.

He was remanded to appear in court tomorrow.
