A MOTORIST is expected to be charged after he allegedly crashed into a stationary vehicle carrying four people while driving with a blood alcohol reading almost seven times the legal limit.

NT Police Northern Watch Commander Senior Sergeant Bruce Payne said about 6.35pm on Sunday, police attended the scene of a crash on Roystonea Avenue in Palmerston in which a 40-year-old male driver had allegedly crashed into the back of another vehicle stopped at a red light.

There were two adults and two children inside the vehicle stopped at the light.

Sr Sgt Payne said the 40-year-old motorist, who was the sole occupant of his vehicle, allegedly returned a high-range blood alcohol reading of 0.338 per cent when breathalysed by police.

He was also allegedly driving while unregistered and uninsured.

“It is quite disturbing that someone would chose to drive whilst this intoxicated and it was extremely fortunate that no one was injured as a result of his actions,” said Sr Sgt Payne.
