A NUMBER of pet dogs have perished in a fire that ripped through the Darwin rural area.
The dogs are thought to have died in the blaze which claimed their owner’s house on Bridgemary Cres, Girraween., and more than a dozen cars.
A shipping container and the contents inside it were also destroyed in the fire at another property on the same street.
Crews could be seen racing between properties about 2.20pm on Monday to stop the blaze from spreading.
Plumes of thick black smoke billowed from the burning house as the old cars also caught alight on the property.
On another street in Girraween, a large trailer, compressor, boat, container with building supplies and concrete equipment were lost in the blaze.

A caravan awning was damaged at yet another property in the same street.
Fireys battled multiple bushfires on Monday under severe conditions.
Severe conditions are also being experienced today and are forecast again for tomorrow.
