A DECK hand has died at sea following a workplace incident off the coast of the Top End on Sunday night.

The 39-year-old man died after falling overboard of a fishing vessel off the cost of Charles Point, near Mandorah.

NT Worksafe and NT Police are investigating the circumstances of the death.

An NT Worksafe spokesman said the circumstances leading up to the incident are still under investigation and that he was unable to comment further.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
