A PASSENGER travelling in the Magical Christmas Train on the night of a crash in 2019 “screamed” at the driver to slow down before the rear carriage rolled and left five people injured, a court has heard.

Total Event Services director, the company which runs the train, Colin West, is currently fighting charges of recklessly endangering serious harm, driving an unregistered motor vehicle, driving and uninsured motor vehicle and driving a vehicle in a dangerous manner in court in relation to the incident in the Darwin Botanic Gardens on December 23, 2019.

One of the witnesses called by the prosecution, who was in the rear carriage at the time of the accident, said she remembered her husband “screaming to slow down” as the train “jerked.”
“The next thing I recall is opening my eyes in the garden bed under the train,” she said.
