ANOTHER person has been issued with an infringement notice for not following their quarantine rules, despite only having three days left in isolation.

The man, 50, was supposed to be in quarantine in Eaton, however when a compliance team visited his property they found he had breached the rules.

The man returned from New South Wales by plan on March 30.

The man was issued with an infringement penalty of $1,099 and referred to Environmental Health Officers to conduct a further risk assessment to determine if contact tracing is required.

Police have now issued nine infringement notices for failing to abide by the Chief Health Officer Directions issued under section 56 of the Public and Environmental Health Act 2011.

NT Police, Public and Environmental Health officers and Australian Defence Force continue to undertake quarantine compliance checks to ensure people are completing their 14 days quarantine.

Physical distance monitoring and enforcing the public gathering limit of ten persons also continues. Territorians are strongly advised to observe the two person limit where possible.

Almost 4000 compliance checks have now been completed with 18 fines issued.

Health Minister Natasha Fyles slammed those caught breaching quarantine and self-isolation rules.

“You are putting our community at risk and it is just not worth it,” Ms Fyles said.

“The Police Commissioner is making sure that those people in the forced quarantine and we know he will act on anything that needs to be done.

“Our police are out there doing the checks and visiting people.

“They will catch you.”

Ms Fyles thanked those who had done the right thing by following the forced quarantine requirements.

“We are seeing strong compliance,” Ms Fyles said.

“But we are seeing people doing the wrong thing.”

Her message to these people is: ‘You will get caught’.

“You will get issued with a fine,” she said.

“Many peole are not enjoying spending so much time at home, but it is a small sacrifice to pay to keep our community safe.”

There have been no new coronavirus cases in the Northern Territory for almost a week but Ms Fyles warned against complacency.

“We’ve tested more than 3000 people and people entering the Territory are going into that forced quarantine.

“We must be focused on flattening the curve and stopping the spread of coronavirus in the Northern Territory.

“If you need to be in self quarantine stay home.”

Police are continuing to do checks on every person who is meant to be in quarantine.
