A VICTORIAN man who was arrested outside a Darwin courthouse after attending his son’s proceedings has gone on an angry tirade in his own court appearance, labelling the NT “a corrupt state” calling his arrest “a witch hunt” and the lawyers involved “c****s”.
Karl Gruber, 50, also had some choice words for “Channel 9 News” during his rant while appearing via video link in court yesterday from the Darwin Correctional Centre where he is currently on remand.
Gruber was arrested outside the Darwin Local Court on February 10 for breaching a DVO by attending court with his former partner to support their son Karl Gruber Jr.
The court heard yesterday that police have since laid four extra charges of assaulting a member of the police force, obtaining benefit by deception, trespass on premises and stealing.
The assault police charge is believed to have arisen from an incident shortly after Gruber was taken into custody.
It is unclear where or when the other offences allegedly occurred.
Gruber’s lawyer Clancy Dane requested the matters go to a hearing, which was scheduled for late July – prompting the outburst from Gruber.
“I’m in custody until then?” he asked.
“This is a f***ing corrupt state. You’re corrupt you f***ing dogs.
“These c***s, it’s a f***ing witch hunt.
“F*** you Channel 9 news.”
He gave the court the gesture known as the ‘bras d’honneur’ before demanding to be released from the video link room.
