LONGTIME Humpty Doo resident Sally Steers was only metres away from her partner’s home when she was tragically killed in a three-vehicle crash on Saturday.
The 58-year-old was on the Arnhem Highway preparing to turn right into the driveway of her partner’s Humpty Doo property, ‘Bonnie Doon’, when a car hit her Ford Focus sedan about 1.30pm.
Detectives from the Major Crash Unit said before she was able to turn, a Toyota HiLux utility collided with her car from behind.
As a result of the collision, Ms Steers’ car entered the oncoming lane, where it was struck by a Holden Commodore sedan.
Her grieving son Brogan Yorston said his mother was “everything to him” and he was struggling to come to terms with her tragic passing.
Daughter Le Yorston said the family was “lost for words” at the moment.
“We loved her very much,” she said.
Family friend Viki Legge said she would remember Ms Steers as a joyful soul.
“It always made my day talking to her,” she said.
“Sally was the sort of person that made you laugh even when you didn’t feel it; she lit up the room when she entered. Just listening to her laugh made others happy.
“She made work fun at the Humpty Doo post office, and I will cherish that time.”
Another one of Ms Steers’ friends, Bobbie Bacon, described her as a very “happy go lucky” person.
Nearby witnesses at the scene of the crash rushed to Ms Steers’ aid and started CPR but she was sadly declared deceased on the scene.
The other two drivers involved in the accident were taken to hospital with minor injuries. Family and friends have placed floral tributes and a candle near the front gate of Bonnie Doon, just metres away from where she had spent her final moments.
It comes as NT Major Crash Detectives call for public assistance to help identify a vehicle at the scene of the fatal crash over the weekend.
Acting Sergeant Jacob Fowler said police had received information that a vehicle travelling directly behind the Toyota HiLux did not stop at the time of the crash and continued driving.
“We believe that the occupants of the vehicle can assist with the investigation and are urging them to come forward,” she said.
