A PALMERSTON mum who was allegedly threatened at knifepoint outside her own home says she’s fed up with crime in the community.
Driver resident Charmaine Swan said she was standing outside her home on Essington Ave when someone approached her and allegedly threatened to stab her about a fortnight ago.
It comes as the latest NT crime statistics show assaults in Palmerston are on the rise, with reported incidents up 43 per cent in February compared to the same period last year.
Ms Swan said the violent incident had left her feeling worried about her family’s safety.
“I walked outside of my house after I heard some people yelling,” she said.
“A woman came up to me with a knife and said: ‘I’ll put it through your gut’.
“The police were called, and they told me to got back in the house and lock the doors.
“We shouldn’t have to live like this.
“Everyone deserves to live in safety without having to worry about crime or being threatened.”
After the alleged incident happened, Ms Swan decided to relocate her family for a few weeks until feeling safe enough to come home.
“I’m more worried about my kids than anything else,” she said.
It comes after a 44-year-old Palmerston man was targeted in a random stabbing outside his home in February.
The man had to be rushed to hospital after being stabbed in the face and legs by a male stranger at his property on McGuire Cct in Moulden.
The man restrained his attacker, but the alleged offender fled while the man was calling the police.
A 33-year-old man was also stabbed at a BWS drive-through bottle shop in Palmerston in January.
He was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
