A WOMAN had to allegedly defend herself from a domestic violence attack with a knife during a violent incident at a busy bus stop.
NT Police Northern Watch Commander Len Turner said the incident was one of a number police were called to despite their attempts to reduce domestic violence through Operation Sherman.

“We had an unusually high number of domestic violence incidents reported to us overnight.
“About 6.15pm (Monday) police were called to Palmerston bus interchange where they found a 49-year-old female with a stab wound to her thigh,” he said.
“She’s also suffering a defensive type wound to one of her arms.
“Police made some inquiries and have since arrested a 56-year-old male who’s been placed in custody.”

Operation Sherman, which also included home visits and victim support assessments, saw 58 arrests and 48 domestic violence orders served during a three-week period around the holiday season.
