HIGH profile Darwin real estate agent Karl Secondis has had his bail conditions varied as his legal team remains optimistic a drug charge he is facing will be resolved summarily.
Secondis has been stood down from nationwide company Ray White, while facing a charge in the Darwin Local Court of possessing a commercial quantity of cocaine.
On Tuesday, his lawyer Peter Maley successfully applied for reporting conditions on his client’s bail to be scrapped, saying it was “highly likely” the charge would resolve without having to be committed to the Supreme Court.
“He’s 47, he’s been here for a long, long time, he's been a well respected businessman, he has no prior history,” he said.
“It’s looking extremely positive in terms of resolution along the same lines as the alleged co-offender (who was dealt with via a fully suspended sentence).”
Mr Maley said the prosecutor who had previously had carriage of the case had since resigned and a new one would have to be assigned before taking the opportunity “to look at my irresistible representations and accept what I’m saying”.
A statement from Ray White issued after the charges were laid in August said it did not “tolerate behaviour that doesn’t mirror it’s values”.
“Ray White Darwin is a family owned and operated business with a very high standing in the local community,” it read.
“We cannot comment any further on any matters that are before the court.”
Secondis will now return to court on November 10.
