PROMINENT Darwin real estate agent Karl Secondis has been stood down from nationwide company Ray White, as he faced court for the first time this week charged with possessing a commercial quantity of cocaine.

A statement from Ray White said it did not “tolerate behaviour that doesn’t mirror it’s values”.

“Ray White Darwin is a family owned and operated business with a very high standing in the local community,” it read.

“The business does not tolerate behaviour that doesn’t mirror it’s values.

“Agent Karl Secondis has been stood down from the business and we cannot comment any further on any matters that are before the court.”

On Wednesday Secondis was represented by local barrister Peter Maley who said the allegation against his client was that the drugs had been intercepted by police, rather than actually being in his physical possession.

“Forensics won’t be as significant given there was no allegation in the (alleged) facts of a physical substance being located, it’s intercepted material so it’s a circumstantial case in a sense,” he said.

“It’s highly likely to resolve summarily, I’m going to make some written representations to the Crown shortly.”

Prosecutor James Bainbridge said he expected to be able to provide a full brief of evidence before the case returned to court.

“I understand there is some CCTV which is also being obtained, there are some police statements pending which we should be able to provide to my friend by the service date,” he said.

Secondis’ bail was extended after Mr Maley confirmed he had surrendered his passport.

Judge Tanya Fong Lim adjourned the case until September 15 when he will be excused from appearing if represented.

The legal threshold for a commercial quantity of cocaine under the Misuse of Drugs Act is 40g.

Secondis has most recently been employed by Ray White Darwin where he closed the deal on a property in Larrakeyah for almost $1.5m in February.

At the time, Secondis told the NT News interstate buyer interest in Darwin was on the rise.

“We are starting to see a return of interstate investors,” he said.

“I’ve only been back in Darwin for 12 months but we are seeing people such as medical professionals that are relocating here from Melbourne and looking at wanting to purchase instead of rent.”
