NT Police investigate Coolalinga Stuart Highway crash after two men hit by car

NT Police crash investigators have seized a car after two men were hit by a vehicle on the Stuart Highway.

Two pedestrians were hit in a high speed zone on the outskirts of Darwin, leaving one man with serious injuries.

NT Police are investigating a serious crash that injured two men at Coolalinga at 7.40pm Monday.

Northern Watch Commander Sean Patterson said a 30-year-old woman was driving towards Palmerston when she allegedly hit the two men on the right hand lane of the road.

Mr Patterson said the crash occurred “just as she hit the 100 zone” on the Stuart Highway.

He said one 40-year-old man was left with a broken pelvis and arm, a compound fracture to his leg and suspected internal injuries.

“He went into surgery last night and he’s expected to live,” Mr Patterson said.

NT St John Ambulance Operations Manager Craig Garraway said his injuries were serious, and the crash closed the highway for some time.

“Hopefully he is recovering … but it will be a long path to recovery,” Mr Garraway said.

Another 34-year-old man left the scene, but was later found with a badly cut right arm, which was later assessed to be broken.

The 30-year-old driver tested negative for drugs and alcohol, and her car was seized as part of the investigation.

Mr Patterson said it was too early to say if charges would be laid.

Mr Patterson reminded drivers to be vigilant on the roads at night, particularly near high speed zones around shops and businesses.

He said the Coolalinga shops area was not a known black spot crash zone.
