A Darwin man allegedly masquerading as a Territory copper has been busted by the real police.

Ben David Earle was expected to appear in Darwin Local Court on Wednesday charged with impersonating a member of the police force.

It is alleged that on October 21, 2022 the 45-year-old pretended to be a police officer in Darwin.

Eighty four days later Earle was charged for the alleged incident, on Friday, January 13.

On Wednesday, Darwin Local Court heard the 45-year-old was unable to attend his first mention hearing due to a broken limb.

Lawyer Jon Bortoli asked Judge Richard Wallace for a directions hearing on March 20.

Earle will be required to attend the next hearing.

NT Police did not put out a public release about the 45-year-old alleged fake officer.

In December, in a completely unrelated case, NT Police released a public statement following a charge against 25-year-old Channel 9 Journalist Georgie Dickerson for an allegation she impersonated a police officer.

Dickerson appeared in Darwin Local Court in January for a first mention and indicated she would contest the charge against her.
