Georgie Dickerson: Dubbo Mayor Mathew Dickerson’s daughter will front court in Darwin on Thursday

A broadcast journalist who is the daughter of a NSW council mayor will front court for the first time this week after being charged with “personating” a police officer in Darwin.

A prime time broadcast journalist and the daughter of the Dubbo Regional Council Mayor will front court after being charged with “personating” a police officer in the Northern Territory.

Georgie Dickerson, 25, a former Dubbo resident and now a reporter with Nine News Darwin is due to appear in a court on Thursday.

Her father is Dubbo Regional Council mayor Mathew Dickerson.

According to a statement by Northern Territory Police on December 12 last year, it issued a 25-year-old woman with a notice to appear after the alleged incident in Palmerston, Darwin on October 17.

In light of the charge, Darren Wick, Nine’s National Director of News and Current Affairs threw his support behind Ms Dickerson.

“Nine News denies any wrongdoing and strongly supports our reporter,” Mr Wick said.

Mr Dickerson was also contacted by NewsLocal, although he was reluctant to speak on the charge.

“The situation is before the courts, so I think it would be inappropriate for me to make any comment at this stage,” he said.

“I am confident that the correct outcome will be achieved.”

An online social media profile indicates Dickerson has been a senior reporter at Nine News Darwin since May 2022.

Previously she was a reporter at 7 Regional in Tamworth, formerly known as Prime 7 Tamworth.

Dickerson also described herself as a former president of Dunmore Lang College, a residential college at Macquarie University in Sydney’s north where she studied media after graduating from St John’s College Dubbo.
