The final moments of a Wadeye man who was fatally stabbed on the streets of Darwin was captured by security cameras, as loved ones tried to stop him bleeding out near a supermarket car park.
Jeremy Cooper, who was accused of dealing the fatal blow, has maintained there is not enough evidence to send him to the Supreme Court, denying he was the figure captured on CCTV.
Cooper appeared before Darwin Local Court via a video link from Alice Springs prison last week charged with murder, going armed in public and drug possession.
Prosecutor Tamara Grealy acknowledged it was a “circumstantial case”, with the attacker in the CCTV near the Darwin city Woolworths allegedly matching Cooper’s description.
Ms Grealy alleged the then 28-year-old Mr Cooper was walking with his partner in the city when he got into an argument with the deceased’s brothers.
Footage allegedly shows a man in a black t-shirt and Adidas shorts running down Cavenagh St.
“The deceased puts out his hands and then blocks the path to stop the running ,” Ms Grealy said.
Ms Grealy alleged after walking alongside the 36-year-old, Mr Cooper then pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the torso.
The 36-year-old stumbled and fell, and was later taken to hospital where he passed away.
Police have previously said there were a large group of witnesses to the alleged stabbing, with a group of people attempting first aid until paramedics arrived.
The 36-year-old passed away in hospital due to the severe abdominal injuries.
Mr Grealy alleged a mobile tower data placed Mr Cooper in the city, and then on Cavanaugh St before his bank cards were linked to an Uber to Parap.
She said CCTV in the United Petrol Station in Parap allegedly showed Mr Cooper in an outfit matching the attacker.
Mr Cooper was arrested 60 hours after the alleged stabbing.
Judge Tanya Fong Lim deemed there was enough evidence to send the case to the Supreme Court, referring the murder case to the higher court on July 4.
