CRIME WRAP: Man charged after woman allegedly sexually assaulted in Palmerston home

A man has been charged after a woman was allegedly sexually assaulted in her home last month.

POLICE have charged a man with alleged sexual intercourse without consent following an incident in Palmerston in September.

NT Police allege the man unlawfully entered a 21-year-old woman’s home on September 19 and assaulted her while she was asleep. He allegedly continued the assault when she woke.

Following a report to police and investigations, members of the Domestic and Family Violence section arrested the man on Friday afternoon.

He was charged with three counts of sexual intercourse without consent, criminal damage and aggravated unlawful entry – dwelling.

The man was remanded in custody to appear in court on Monday, October 18.

MISSING TEENAGER FOUND

UPDATE: ONE of two people who went missing in the Arlparra and Hearts Range region in Central Australia has been found.

Fourteen-year-old Mahesh Patrick was found in bushland by a community member about 9.30pm on Friday.

He and Shaun Emitja, 21, were reported missing on Tuesday.

Mahesh was taken to Arlparra clinic and treated for dehydration. He had sore feet from walking in the remote environment.

Mr Emitja is still missing, with authorities continuing the search.

Senior Sergeant Michael Potts said Mahesh told police the pair became separated on Wednesday.

“We have concerns that Shaun has had no water and the temperatures are extreme,” Snr Sgt Potts said.

“A helicopter is continuing an aerial search with information provided by Mahesh. Police and trackers are continuing the ground search.”

EARLIER: NT Police continue search for two people believed to have been missing in the Arlparra and Harts Range region since Tuesday.

Shaun Emitja, 21, and Mahesh Patrick, 14 were reported missing by family when they failed to return to their community in Hermannsburg after spending the weekend in Arlparra.

Their vehicle, a blue dual cab Nissan Navara, was located bogged on a dirt track 9.6km southeast from the Redgum Store on Tuesday.

Two swags and a campfire were found nearby but the pair were not spotted.

Senior Sergeant Michael Potts said police were concerned for their welfare now that they had been missing for more than 96 hours.

“Police are working with local trackers after footprints were found in an area at the base of a hill late yesterday. Air and land searches of the area will continue throughout the day,” he said.

“At this stage there’s no evidence to show what provisions the two had with them or whether they have been able to find water in the area.

“We’re hoping the significant rainfall in the area on Sunday topped up any little soaks, and that they’ve been able to locate these.”

ARRESTS MADE FOLLOWING STRING OF BREAK INS ACROSS THE NT OVERNIGHT

THE Top End was struck by another string of break-ins overnight, with premises in Alice Springs, Darwin City and Nightcliff all hit.

At 2.15am on Friday NT Police received a report of multiple intruder alarms being activated at a licensed premises in Nightcliff.

Police patrols swiftly responded and found one person inside, who was arrested and remains in custody assisting with inquiries.

More reports intruder alarms sounded in a separate incident at a licensed premises in Darwin City at 2.25am.

CCTV operators captured vision of three people leaving the premises and were able to provide descriptions to responding patrols.

Police found three people close by with items alleged to have been stolen from the premises.

The trio were arrested and remain in custody.

There were also three break-ins in the Larapinta area of Alice Springs.

Between 8am and 8pm on Thursday an address on Lyndavale Dr was broken into, with a Kawasaki 450 trail bike was taken.

Before 5am another address on the same street was broken into but nothing was found to be missing.

Twenty minutes later an address on Karee Crt was also broken into with a grey 2004 ford focus stolen.

Investigations are ongoing into any relations between the three incidents as police call for witnesses.

SEARCH FOR MISSING YOUTHS

Police are searching for two people who have been reported as missing in the Arlparra / Harts Range area after failing to return to the remote community of Hermannsburg.

Police were contacted by family after 10am on Wednesday after Shaun Emitja, 21, and Mahesh Patrick, 14, did not return home after attending the Arlparra sports weekend.

It is believed that the pair left Arlparra on Monday night and were travelling in a blue dual cab utility.

However, on Tuesday the vehicle was located by community members bogged on a dirt track 9.6km from the Redgum store.

An air search began on Wednesday as police and emergency services worked with local community residents to find the pair.

Police have not ruled out the possibility that the duo were picked up by a passing vehicle.

Acting Superintendent Shaun Furniss urged anyone with information to the pair’s whereabouts to contact police immediately.

“It appears the pair have been fairly self-sufficient to-date, with community members locating swags and a campfire within the area of the vehicle,” he said.

“However we do hold concerns as we’re unsure as to what provisions and water they have on them.

“Local police have advised there was significant rainfall in the area on Sunday, hence why the vehicle became bogged.”

Police urge anyone with information as to the Shaun and Mahesh’s whereabouts, to contact police immediately on 131 444 or report it anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

POLICE CHARGE THREE YOUTHS IN RELATION TO AN AGGRAVATED ROBBERY IN WAGAMAN

Police have charged three youths in relation to an aggravated robbery in Wagaman on Wednesday.

At 5.15pm the three girls aged 13, 15 and 16 allegedly entered a business on Wagaman Pl and stole a number of small items while threatening staff with a small edged weapon.

They were caught and arrested by police a short time later.

Strike Force Trident detectives later charged the three youths with aggravated robbery.

They were remanded to appear in court today.

POLICE RESPOND TO FOUR COMMERCIAL BREAK-INS IN NT TOWN IN 24 HOURS

NT Police have responded to four commercial break-ins in Alice Springs in the space of 24 hours, in which “alcohol seems to have been targeted” in all incidents.

The locations of the unlawful entries are spread around Alice Springs and do not appear to be connected, police say.

A sports club, a bar, and a family club, were among the premises targeted.

Police said they would review CCTV footage to gather further information.

POLICE RECOVER STOLEN VEHICLE WITH 11YO AT THE WHEEL

POLICE allege they apprehended a Nissan X-Trail with an 11-year-old behind the wheel and several adult passengers in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

At approximately 1am on Wednesday, police say the vehicle was apprehended on Gsell St in Casuarina.

Police allege an 11-year-old was driving the vehicle and sitting in the place of the driver’s headrest with four other occupants, at least some of whom were adults.

Police further allege all five occupants – one female and four males – alighted from the vehicle with one occupant running away. The occupant who allegedly fled was located by police a short time later.

When police attended the owner’s Casuarina address, the news about their car came as a surprise. Police say the owner was sleeping and unaware that their residence had been entered and vehicle stolen.

MAN CHARGED AFTER ALLEGED ASSAULT

A MAN has been arrested and charged after allegedly assaulting an elderly man twice and stealing his money.

NT Police say about 3am on September 29 the 47-year-old man allegedly knocked on the door of the residence of a 77-year-old male, assaulted the older man and stole a small amount of cash.

The 47-year-old returned a short time later and again allegedly assaulted the 77-year-old and took the man’s remaining money.

The older man had head injuries including a broken jaw and has had to return to hospital for further treatment.

Detectives from Serious Crime obtained CCTV footage and spoke to nearby residents and on Tuesday afternoon arrested the 47-year-old in Marrara.

He has been charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated unlawful entry and serious harm.

The man has been remanded in custody to appear in court at a later date.

YOUTH CHARGED

A 14-year-old boy has been charged after allegedly assaulting workers at a restaurant in Casuarina.

About 6.30am on October 10, two boys aged 13 and 14 went to the restaurant and allegedly caused a disturbance inside the venue.

The 14-year-old allegedly threatened staff with an ‘edged weapon’ before stealing money.

Strike Force Trident detectives arrested the 14-year-old in relation to the incident as well as another on October 4, when he allegedly caused damage to a vehicle and stole a number of items.

He was charged with one count of aggravated robbery, three counts of assaulting worker, three counts of damage to property, two counts of trespassing, two counts of stealing and one count of assault.

He was remanded to appear in court on Tuesday.

“Investigations into both incidents are ongoing and police would like urge the public that if you see any sort of suspicious or violent behaviour please call 131 444 or triple-0 if it is an emergency,” Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said.

HOLDENS STOLEN

TWO Holdens have been stolen in an unlawful entry from an Alice Springs residence in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Police were called to a house on Woods Tce in Braitling around 5.30am in relation to the break-in.

The two stolen vehicles are a black 2012 Holden Cruze hatchback with NT registration CC63BX and an orange VE Holden Commodore stationwagon NT registration 993794.

Police are calling on anyone who may sight the vehicles to please contact them on 131 444 or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.

A 2001 Toyota Corolla Sedan NT registration CC38KE remains outstanding after it was stolen on Monday in an unlawful entry in Alice Springs.
