REIGNING premiers Tracy Village will be hoping to return to winning ways when it takes on a resurgent Waratahs in Round 9 of the Darwin Netball Premier League.

The 2019 championship-winning side has looked strong through centre court all season but missed opportunities on the scoring end saw the Falcons give up wins to both Pints and Nightcliff in recent weeks.

Next up the Falcons have a win-thirsty Waratahs, who last round scored a 37-29 win over Nightcliff, their first victory since the opener.

Tracy Village coach Sharon Freeman felt it would be an interesting encounter but insisted that capitalising on opportunities would be the lynchpin for her side.

“Our focus has just been on finishing off when we get under the posts,” Freeman told the NT News.

“We’re getting the ball in the right places in the attacking court but not taking those opportunities as much as we need to.

“We were good through mid-court and defence against Nightcliff but we need to step up on the offensive end.”

Tracy Village has been particularly strong on the defensive end where Lauren Pluker, Hailey Wyatt and Ivana Shober have stood out winning possession.

Freeman also hopes standout goal attack Gemma Henderson will step up under the posts against Waratahs, a side she expects to hit the court running.

“It will be an interesting encounter against Waratahs as we had a close game last time (42-32 Falcons win),” Freeman said.

“They will come out with more confidence after getting that win over Nightcliff and look to hit the court running.

“So for us it will once again be about taking those opportunities when we get them because that’s let us down a little so far.”

Meanwhile in other Darwin Netball action, Nightcliff will be looking to bounce back from their loss against bottom side Hoggies, who will be hoping to follow in Waratahs’ footsteps.

The unbeaten Pints have the week off safe on top of the table.
