STRONG showings at both ends of the court saw table-toppers Tracy Village Falcons net themselves a 44-33 win over Banks Bulldogs in Round 10 of the 2021 Darwin Netball Premier League.

Nothing could separate the two sides in the opening quarter, with both squads finding their time in the scoring circle.

However, in the second quarter Falcons widened the margin, with Gemma Henderson and Lauren Pluker showing their speed and skill through centre-court to move the ball forward.

At the shooting end, Mikaelia Sawyer was a standout, accurately netting the majority of opportunities that came her way.

Banks had their own runs of ascendency, with Hillary Grubb and Maddie Gissing quick around the court and pushing the ball towards their shooting end.

However, Falcons’ defence held strong for the most part, with Ella Tilling in particular impressing on her first game up from reserve grade.

Sawyer enjoyed the win, which maintained her side’s buffer at the top of the table, four points clear of second-placed Waratahs.

“It’s been a good season so far, with some ups and downs, but that was definitely an up game,” Sawyer told the NT News.

“We focused a lot on defence and working it down the court to my end, and that paid off well for us and got us ahead when we needed to be.

“I’m new to the club this year and it’s been nice to get to know the girls, its easy-going and I’m loving it so far.”

Meanwhile, Waratahs further secured their second position on the table with a 39-31 win over fighting Hoggies.

Reigning premiers Pints continued their recent uptick in form with a handy 36-29 win over Nightcliff.
