WOMEN’S football in the Northern Territory has come a long way since its formative years, moving from a mad scramble for the football to precise disposal by hand and foot and a fierce determination to succeed.

Today’s Women’s Premier League can boast several talented players, all of them capable of performing the many skills that come with competing at league level in contested situations that highlight the great Australian game.

The NT News put their top 25 NTFL women’s players from the first half of the 2020-21 NTFL season together this week. How do you rate them?

The former Adelaide Crow and Gold Coast Sun in her AFLW days has booted 17 goals in eight matches and promises to kick a lot more.

A few injuries this season, including a broken wrist that will keep her out of action until after Christmas. A few best on ground games early in the season has the Queenants veteran winger hungry for that elusive premiership medal.

Never afraid to enter a contest or tackle an opponent with the ball, Streader is a creative player who can kick goals or run out of defence with equal precision.

13. DOMINIQUE CARBONE (BUFFETTES)

A highly skilled two-way midfielder, capable of fighting through a contest or using her pace on the outside where she can use her penetrating kick inside 50. Carbone’s leg speed and accurate kicking has been a giant plus in every game for the Buffettes this season.

Loves to run with the ball as most Territory footballers do, opening up a game and giving teammates further down the ground several scoring opportunities.

The Tahs defender is rarely beaten. Under rated over the years, she has developed into a strong one-on-one player who can also play in the ruck.

Her seven games have included four goals in sorties into the forward line, big plusses for a Waratah side looking to grab a spot in the WPL finals for an eighth straight season.

A player Tahs can rely on to lift them when they need the football in their hands, with marking and hardness her main characteristics.
