The NT News reveals the first five players of the top 25 Women’s Premier League list

WOMEN’S football in the Northern Territory has come a long way since its formative years, moving from a mad scramble for the football to precise disposal by hand and foot and a fierce determination to succeed.

Today’s Women’s Premier League can boast several talented players, all of them capable of performing the many skills that come with competing at league level in contested situations that highlight the great Australian game.

The NT News put their top 25 NTFL women’s players from the first half of the 2020-21 NTFL season together this week. How do you rate them?

25. IESHA RONBERG (PALMERSTON MAGPIES)

Consistently in the Magpies best players, Ronberg plays on a wing or around the ball where her feet and hand skills make her a standout.

Her first season in Premier League has been exemplary with her poise around the ball and ability to use it when she gets hold of it. The future of Territory football with her leg speed and delivery, Ronberg is a future leader at the Magpies.

24. LATEESHA JEFFREY (SOUTHERN DISTRICTS)

A player who leads by example and an excellent reader of the play, Jeffrey is a born leader with tremendous communication skills who hits the contest hard. The former captain of the Territory Thunder women in the strong VFLW competition, Jeffrey has been a permanent presence in representative sides.

Her eight games in 20-21 have been across half back, but she has worked her way up forward to hit the scoreboard twice.

23. MALORY NANKERVIS (SOUTHERN DISTRICTS)

A genuine workmanlike defender who reads the play very well and always places herself at the contest. A big addition to a Districts side with a brand new look about them after winning the premiership last season, Nankervis six matches in her debut season have seen her in the best players three times.

22. ELIZA MORRISON (NIGHTCLIFF)

Second season with the Tigers, now the co-captain as a key midfielder who is excellent at reading the play and has a strong workrate across the field.

An important cog in the Nightcliff side that stumbled through November but seem to have found their feet with the Christmas break approaching, Morrison’s ability to lift her side with an explosive burst of play has become an integral part of Nightcliff’s makeup.

21. CLAUDIA WHITFORT (ST MARYS’)

The AFLW St Kilda listed star has been a revelation for the Saints who knows how to kick a goal with her strong marking and powerful kicking.

A go-to player with the Saints, Whitfort can also find the football and has the poise to deliver it to teammates close to her or a long way down the ground.
