WOMEN’S football in the Northern Territory has come a long way since its formative years, moving from a mad scramble for the football to precise disposal by hand and foot and a fierce determination to succeed.
Today’s Women’s Premier League can boast several talented players, all of them capable of performing the many skills that come with competing at league level in contested situations that highlight the great Australian game.
The NT News put their top 25 NTFL women’s players from the first half of the 2020-21 NTFL season together this week. How do you rate them?
20. ANDI MOLIERE (NIGHTCLIFF TIGERS)
Moliere’s first season in the WPL since coming through the Tigers’ junior program has been productive and she is still able to play at under-18 level.
Essentially a winger, she has tremendous leg speed that assists her chase down and tackle opponents with the ball.
A consistent performer in her eight games in yellow and black in her debut season, Moliere’s foot and hand skills are from the top level.

19. MOLLY ALTHOUSE (DARWIN BUFFETTES)
A clever tap ruck with elite skills and vision. Breaks defensive lines with a booming kick and is rarely rushed when the ball is in her hand.
Almost impossible to tackle with her strong body and evasive skills and the catalyst that gets the Buffettes going with her strength at contests.
Five games for four wins and a draw shows her importance to a Buffettes side used to winning in front of their adoring fans.

18. CASEY MORRIS (PINTS)
The most improved player in the competition. A mobile centre half-forward who covers a lot of ground and is a strong overhead contested mark.
Has got big wraps from her coach Rick Nolan on her hardness at contests and ability to use the football in a PINT side full of class players.
Morris’ 10 goals from the Queenants’ eight games show her versatility and value to a club desperate for premiership success after years in the doldrums.
17. AMY CHITTICK (PINTS)
Has played more as a midfielder since moving over from Waratah and after a few average seasons the girl they call Chitty is back to her best. At only 23 years of age her best football is still in front of her and her appetite for goals is getting stronger.
Fifth on the goalkicking table with 13 in PINT’s eight games this season, Chittick has kicked the most goals in her side’s wins on seven occasions.
