IT has been an NTFL season like no other, uplifted rather than downgraded by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Southern recruits by the planeload have made their way to the Top End of Australia to get the feel of a football again and the eight Premier League clubs have had some enormous benefits as a result.
The NT News sat down this week to name their Top 25 men’s Premier League players from 11 rounds of the 20-21 season, a task made more difficult by the wave of superb players drawn to the Darwin based competition.
Strength in the clinches, leg speed to burn, poise and discipline in defence and powerful marking are all assets of the Top 25.

15. SHAUN EDWARDS (ST MARY’S)
The former GSW Giant, Essendon and Sydney Swans midfielder continues to show his class in a Saints side chock-full of class and experience.
The go-to man when St Mary’s need a lift, Edwards always produces with stunning goal or decisive disposal.
His eight goals from nine appearances this season have come at critical times, often with the touch of class his fans anticipate every week.

14. BRODIE NEWMAN (WANDERERS)
The Calder Cannons product is only 19 but has played a massive role in Wanderers rise from also-rans to genuine title contenders.
His powerful marks and clearance work have seen the Muk Muks escape danger on a number of occasions.
Combine that with his steady head and precise disposals the Eagles have found themselves a more than capable backline recruit.
13. TYLAH SAUNDERS (ST MARY’S)
An old school defender with the hardness and discipline to go with it, Saunders has been a standout performer in a St Mary’s defence renowned for its toughness.
Has transformed his game from a busy on-baller to a resolute defender since arriving at St Mary’s from SANFL club Glenelg four seasons ago.
Saunders’ nine games this season have produced three best on ground performances and five occasions in his side’s best five players.

12. ABE ANKERS (WARATAH)
Ankers has long been an ace for Waratah and season 2020-21 is no different with his hunger for the ball as clear as ever.
The former NT Thunder captain injects pace and precision into the red and white outfit and has got the most out of his side’s lift in form this year.
With an average of 25.6 disposals from seven games the club stalwart is set for another impressive season as his the Tah’s key playmaker.
11. FLETCHER CARROLL (TIWI BOMBERS)
Another midfielder with a giant appetite for the football, Williamstown (VFL) recruit Carroll have averaged 25 possessions in his 10-game stint with the Tiwis.
Always finds himself at the contest where the ball regularly finds its way into his hands, Carroll’s decision making and clean skills on both sides of his body have been standouts in a lean year for the Bombers.
