SOUTHERN Districts captain Dean Staunton noted the must-win nature of his side’s clash with Palmerston at Cazalys Oval.

Despite the Crocs being competitive in the majority of their matches, they’ve won only once from the opening five rounds.

Croc breaks 40 disposals to top NTFL Round 5 stats

Their most recent loss to Wanderers at home has left Districts determined to turn their fortunes as they turn their sights to an equally eager Palmerston, who have found themselves in the same position.

“I felt we were pretty competitive for most of the match but a couple of lapses particularly in the last quarter let us down,” Staunton told the NT News.

“Every game is important for us from now on and Palmerston are in the same position so they will be as keen as we are to get the win.”

The Crocs skipper was quick to note the form of key midfielder James Tsitas, who became the first player of the season to exceed 40 disposals against Wanderers.

Luke Kiel, Lionel Ogden and Charlie McAdam all have the potential to light up the field with Tsitas, while Andrew Boseley can be lethal in front of the posts.

Palmerston skipper Matt Dennis can upset the Crocs in the ruck, while Eric Guthrie is a potent ball magnet once he gets going.

“Palmerston will be competitive to keep their own season hopes going so we hope we can come away with the win against them,” Staunton said.

“Mainly it comes down to maintaining a full four-quarter performance and playing consistent footy for the full game without lapses.
