TERRITORY football has been enriched by several interstate recruits this season, all of them anxious to get a football in their hands after the cornavirus lockdowns.
The rich harvest of footballers who arrived on our doorstep from Victoria and South Australia has added an extra element of class and intrigue to the northern game by lifting the skill and intensity level and overall standard.
Football writers Grey Morris and Nathaniel Chambers have selected a team of imports they are convinced will more than match a ‘Locals’ side we could put up against them.
Is it time to revive the Locals v Imports game from the early 1980s?
Given the amount of interstate talent in Darwin and abundance of homegrown talent, we would suggest the time is right now.

FORWARD POCKET – BRODIE FOSTER (Buffaloes, 28)
A fast leading, long kicking forward from Mount Gambier in South Australia, Foster has already spread his talents in Territory football. Kicked a century of goals for Glencoe in South Australia’s Mid South Eastern Football League in a COVID-19 free 2019, booting 13 goals in a one-man forward show to reach the tone.

FULL FORWARD – BRETT EDDY (Wanderers, 31)
They call former Port Adelaide forward ‘Hollywood’ and if he continues his 20-21 season form with the Eagles, he just might be the biggest show in town. He already has 19 goals from five matches and has been one of his side main weapons in Wanderers’ rise from also-rans a year ago to genuine top three contenders.
FORWARD POCKET – BRANDYN GRENFELL (St Mary’s, 28)
A big marking tall forward who play in the ruck with his powerful hands who can mark on the lead or in a pack situation. Was recommended to St Mary’s by former Saint and now Cooparoo coach Barry O’Brien and he has not let St Mary’s down.
FIRST RUCK – MATTHEW DENNIS (Palmerston, 34)
The consummate ruckman who can jump over the moon, take an overhead or chest mark with ease, win tap outs to his small men and kick long to teammates. Won the NT News Player Of The Year two seasons ago to stamp his authority on the NTFL competition.

ROVER – SHAUN MANNAGH (Wanderers, 23)
A ball magnet with immaculate foot skills that played a major role in Wanderers’ surge into the top three in the first four rounds. Has played with Richmond’s VFL side, Lavington and North Albury in the Ovens and Murray league and TAC Cup side Murray Bushrangers in line with his birthplace in Victoria’s northeast.

FOLLOWER – DOMINIC BREW (Nightcliff, 23)
Another footballer from Victoria’s northeast where he played senior football with North Albury. Can find the football and do something with it in a pack situation or when left alone by opponents. Has made a big impression at reigning premier Nightcliff with his hardness at the ball and big appetite for possessions.
