NIGHTCLIFF’s strength in defence earned the side grand final revenge with a 38-26 win over reigning premiers Tracy Village Falcons in Round 7 of the Darwin Netball Premier League.

Having lost the competition decider last year and its first-round encounter, the Tigers were out for revenge against rivals Tracy Village.

Intense defensive pressure from Tammie Barton, Katie Elmer and Lilly McGrath set the tone early, with the three forcing the Falcons attack to work extra hard to score.

While Tracy Village’s offence of Gemma Henderson and Karmen Sampson worked hard to get the ball in good spots, the Tigers would pounce on every opportunity that came their way.

Nightcliff’s Melina Pohl and Megan Craufurd were strong on the scoring end, converting most of the opportunities that came their way.

Tigers coach Neil Forsyth was pleased with the efforts of his side, particularly with the combinations coming together.

“It was good to get the win. The second half in particular had our combinations come together a lot better, with the side really playing well,” he told the NT News. “It was exciting to see the side gel together as that’s what we have been working towards all season.

“The last time we played Falcons was obviously our first game of the season, so to see the girls improve from that was really impressive and a reward for the effort the girls have put in.

“Defence was once again a real strong point for us with the girls back there having blinders of a game bringing the ball down the court.

“And our shooters were also on fire only missing a couple of goals and rewarding the efforts of the side.”
