Darwin SuperSprint to go ahead as historic second weekend of Darwin Supercars action

DARWIN’s double-header of Supercars action is back on track with the Corestaff Darwin SuperSprint set to take place on the August 22-23 weekend

DARWIN’s doubleheader of Supercars action is back on track with the Corestaff Darwin SuperSprint set to take place on the August 22-23 weekend.

The evevnt follows the BetEasy Darwin Triple Crown the preceding weekend and will mark the first time the Top End has hosted two weekend of Supercars racing.

After being postponed due to quarantine concerns both weekends of action at the Hidden Valley racetrack have been pushed back a week.

This second weekend will see powerhouse champion Scott McLaughlin push his case for further Top End glory.

However, the eyes of Territorians will also be on another historic moment, that being the prescence of the Territory’s first full-time Supercars driver - Bryce Fullwood.

NT Major Events company CEO Tim Watsford was excited at the prospect of an historic two rounds of Darwin racing.

“The drivers and teams are all here and all raring to go,” Watsford said.

“These events will be unique in the history of Supercars in Darwin. We will see someone lift the BetEasy Darwin Triple Crown and we then have an entire second weekend of racing to look forward to after.

“It’s been quite a journey to get here due to the many challenges thrown up by COVID-19 but now the excitement is building.”

Supercars CEO Sean Seamer shared the enthusiasm thanking the NT Governement on their conmittment to ensure both weekends went ahead despire difficult circumstances.

“We’d like to thank the Northern Territory Government for working closely with Supercars and broadcasters to secure these new dates for the CoreStaff Darwin SuperSprint.

“Supercars would also like to thank drivers, officials, team personnel and their families for their continued support of this year’s Championship during these times.”

Territorians will get their first taste of the upcoming events this Thursday with the Supercars Transporter Convoy.
