Night time football and soccer in the suburbs will become a reality in 2020, with the Darwin-based ESPEC earning tender for the suburban oval light’s project.

The $7 million package will see the company take charge of the projects at Bagot Oval, Gardens Oval and Nightcliff Oval which will begin in February and run to June.
AFLNT chief executive Stuart Totham said the project would allow the women and junior AFL teams to grow.

“These lighting projects are fantastic projects for the community and the sport more broadly but from an Aussie rules perspective to have Nightcliff, Gardens in particular lit up will mean more training opportunities for our growing sport,” he said.
“We look forward to Lights and Gardens and Nightcliff season 20/21.”
