PALMERSTON’S consistent wingman Ryan Warfe was earmarked as one of the big up-and-comers in the NTFL after being named the NT News Rising Star.
Holding off fierce competition from clubs with more successful seasons, it was Warfe who emerged with the Rising Star honours and a $500 prize.

“It feels really good to win the award. It was definitely one of my better seasons,” Warfe told the NT News.
“Palmerston has been really good to me, particularly Froggy (coach Alwyn) Davey. He’s done a lot for us younger guys and really supported us.”
The young gun received his nomination in Round 13 following a four-quarter effort against an in-form St Mary’s where he was a consistent presence around the ball.
At the time, Palmerston Davey heralded Warfe as a key junior in a club eyeing successful future.
“Ryan’s consistency on match days is a big part of his game. He is always at the contest or presenting himself as an option further up the ground,” Davey said.
“With that comes experience and his consistency means he is a regular senior player.”
Since then the 20-year-old has only improved, finding more time on the ball culminating in a Round 18 game against Tiwi where he pulled off a round-high 37 disposals.
For the Magpies, Warfe is a name the club will be looking to retain alongside fellow young gun and Round 2 nominee Tyrell Lui.
Wanderers’ Brodie Newman and Dray Thompson, Saints’ Lachlan Taylor and goal scorer Beau Tedcastle and Nightcliff’s Andy Moniz-Wakefield also showed potential.
