Mitch Robinson charges Southern Districts player

Former AFL player Mitch Robinson has found himself in hot water after dangerously charging an opponent in an NTFL match.

The former Carlton and Brisbane Lions player has been playing for the Darwin Buffaloes in the NTFL for the past couple of seasons as a fly-in.

However, he has run into tribunal trouble after charging Melton and Werribee player Jordyn Cotter, who is in the NTFL playing for Southern Districts.

The charge took place midway through the match as Robinson sprinted downfield in pursuit of the ball, but did not attempt to make the mark, instead taking out his opposition.

Players from both sides then ran in as tensions flared, though some from Districts stayed in the game allowing Jonathon Ross to kick a goal less than a minute later.

Robinson has been charged with charging another person with his tackle deemed intentional conduct, medium impact and body contact.

He has been bit with a two match ban, which will be downgraded to one if he makes an early guilty plea.

The Darwin Buffaloes ultimately lost the match 21.13 (139) to 4.12 (36) in a major hit to their finals ambitions.

Round 13 has become somewhat a bane for Robinson in the NTFL, with the player copping a ban after making an obscene gesture in the 2022-23 season.

Meanwhile, the Palmerston Magpies and Nightcliff Tigers have both been hit with fines after players from their women’s sides engaged in a melee late in their fixture.

Palmerston will have to pay $500 and Nightcliff $300, down to $250 and $150 respectively with early guilty pleas, after the brawl, though no players from either side are facing bans.

Nightcliff won the match 7.13 (55) to 1.0 (6).

PINT’s Elliott Chalmers can accept a reprimand after tripping Wanderers’ Joel Cubillo, while Palmerston player Samuel Autio is facing up to four weeks after striking Nightcliff’s Liam Stow.
