Replay: NTFL Round 15 - Wanderers v Waratah

Waratah won its Foundation Cup match against Wanderers in stylish fashion in the game played at Tracy Village.

After a dominant second quarter, Tahs won a feisty encounter 12.14 (86) to 6.7 (43).

After a slow start by both teams in heavy conditions, it was Waratah magician Jayden Magro who landed the first blow at the 10-minute mark of the first term and when he got another a couple of minutes later it looked how far the visitors.

But big Eagle Edward Simpson found a bit of space and got his team on the board late in the quarter and that was some reward for Muk Muk effort where Dane Mcfarlane and Beau O’Connell were causing headaches for their immediate opponents.

Tahs found its mojo in the second stanza booting five goals to one.

A lift through the mid field together with the run off halfback from Joel Crocker and two goals from Darcy Hope were the chief ingredients in the intensity revitalisation.

Dylan Dos Santos had the job on Magro and while the move was successful for long periods, only the hard-working Nathan Arbon goaled for the Eagles who gifted their opponents many opportunities through undisciplined defensive acts.

Waratah led by 31 points at the long break and extended the margin to 56 points at three quarter time.

However, a four goal to one final term in favour of the home side was a rare but welcome effort from Wanderers players who gave their army of committed supporters something to cheer about.

In an even performance, Tahs were dedicated to the task and had a bevy of good players across the park including dashing halfback Crocker who is seeking to go one better in 2023.

“It was a tough game today especially early where Wanderers put us to the test but we had to overcome that in what was a crucial win against a team that normally pressures us,” said Croker.

“I played across halfback today and enjoy playing there and we are developing a good base in defence.

“This is my second season here and while teams chop and change a bit up here, we have managed to retain a core group of players from last year and hopefully it will help us go one better this time around.”

LIVESTREAM PREVIEW

Wanderers may be out of finals contention, but they can still trouble second-placed Waratah as they compete for the Foundation Cup.

And the NT News will be there to livestream all the action exclusively for you from 4pm, Sunday.

Wanderers have suffered all season with the inability to make the most of their opportunities in front of goal.

It was an issue which sprouted in spite of their talent across the field including Steven Motlop, Brodie Neman, Beau O’Connell and Mitchel Taylor.

However, with the Foundation Cup on the line and the opportunity to get a win over their old rivals they could still sneak in a big performance.

Waratah meanwhile know they can go all out with their bye round up next, as they eye the chance to add some silverware.

Sitting in second the Tahs have been standout performers this season and if they keep the wins rolling in still have the potential to finish the season on top of the table.

They also have talent right across the field including leading goal kicker Jayden Magro and one of the favourites for the Nichols Medal, Dylan Collis.

If you are attempting to cast the livestream or replay to a television, the best result can be achieved by either using a laptop/computer or a mobile phone.

The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to livestream Men’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
