Replay: NTFL Round 14 - Wanderers v PINT

After an extraordinarily slow start in which it managed only a solitary goal till halftime, PINT bounded back in the second half and overcame an equally lethargic Wanderers by 38 points – winning 10.9 (69) to 4.7 (31).

Although unconvincing, the Greenants remain within reach of the top five with finals on the near horizon, whereas Wanderers blew its slim chance following a performance that had its many supporters wondering what happened.

A goalless first quarter suggested the teams were evenly matched but the Muk Muk’s had the better of the contest where Mitchell Taylor, Braedon McLean, Chris Curran and Dylan Dos Santos effectively snuffed out any PINT attacking forays.

Similarly, the green defenders, with Mitchell Lowe a standout, had the better of their opponents and an absence of goals resulted.

The second quarter started in a similar fashion until the mercurial Shane Thorne found space and slotted through the first major of the match at the four minute mark.

Brodie Newman followed soon after and the Eagles enjoyed a slim but solid lead.

However, after 12 minutes, Silver Yousif pounced and goaled giving the Ants some foundation before the long break.

South Australian recruit Lowe agreed the game was a fizzer in the first half but said coach Shannon Motlop strongly put the onus on the players to lift their intensity.

“The coach entirely put it on the players at half time.

He said our skills were pretty ordinary as all those watching could see and he added that the coaches couldn’t help at that stage so the players must rally,” said Lowe.

“We all agreed with his comments and the improvement was player driven and we lifted to another level in the second half.

“We are still a finals chance and know our style of footy stacks up with the best teams so if we keep winning, we are still a chance of playing finals.”

Four goals to one in the third quarter showed the Motlop words resonated with the players. On the other hand, Wanderers fared little better in the second half and lacked its usual run and carry through the midfield and while rucks Edward Simpson and Jobastin Priest matched their opponents, they simply couldn’t find an effective forward line strategy.

LIVESTREAM PREVIEW

It’s do or die for both Wanderers and PINT with both sides needing a win when they clash to keep themselves in contention for a NTFL finals berth.

And the NT News will be there to livestream the game exclusively for you from 5pm, Saturday.

It’s do or die for both Wanderers and PINT with both sides needing a win when they clash to keep themselves in contention for a NTFL finals berth.

The Muk Muks would have counted themselves unlucky to have lost so narrowly to Nightcliff in Round 13, but must now focus on their next foe.

Wanderers have plenty of pace coming out of their midfield with Steven Motlop and Beau O’Connell both performing, but for some reason the side is unable to finish their chances.

They come up against PINT who are in an incredibly similar situation being a side that don’t exactly pile on the points.

The Greenants are however a side who have impressed each week, considering they’re in their first season, and will carry some confidence from beating the Muk Muks in their last meeting.

If you are attempting to cast the livestream or replay to a television, the best result can be achieved by either using a laptop/computer or a mobile phone.

The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to livestream Men’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
