A woman who was more than seven times the legal alcohol limit has been arrested after she allegedly got behind the wheel and crashed into another car in Malak.

NT Police Acting Superintendent Gregory Pusterla said the woman allegedly reversed a Suzuki Swift into a Nissan Navara on Mathews Rd about 7.35pm Monday.

He said the crash caused minor damage to both cars.

Mr Pusterla said the 38-year-old woman was arrested at the scene and allegedly returned a breath analysis result of 0.371 per cent.

The Australian legal blood-alcohol content limit for driving is 0.05 per cent.

“To get behind the wheel of a vehicle over seven times the legal limit is absolutely disgraceful and its astounding no one was injured,” Mr Pusterla said.

“We are continuing to urge both drivers and pedestrians on Territory roads to be aware of the dangers around alcohol.

“The message is very simple, don’t drink and drive.”

The woman was charged with driving with a high range blood alcohol content, driving in a public street with undue care, and driving an unregistered/uninsured vehicle.

She was bailed to appear in the Darwin Local Court on September 6.

A New South Wales woman is reported to hold the continent’s record for highest blood-alcohol reading at 0.486.

She was preceded by Gold Coast woman Angela Bisson who returned a 0.48 reading.

Ms Bisson was arrested in 2016 after she was found passed out in her car in front of a cafe.

Experts previously said Ms Bisson’s reading would have put her “close to dead”.

A Victorian L-plater returned a blood-alcohol reading of 0.319 in 2022.

When learning to drive, motorists are required to have a zero blood-alcohol content level while behind the wheel.
