Drink-driver records .48, believed to be highest blood alcohol reading ever recorded in Australia

A QUEENSLAND woman has faced court for what is believed to be an Australian record blood alcohol reading — a level which an expert says put her “close to dead”.

A GOLD Coast woman has faced court for what is believed to be an Australian record DUI reading of .48.

Angela Bisson appeared in Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with high-range drink-driving.

She was arrested late 2015 at Runaway Bay after being found passed out in her car in front of a cafe.

Bisson, 42, was taken to hospital where blood tests allegedly revealed the .48 reading.

Shocked police and drug and alcohol experts said it was believed to be the highest blood alcohol reading recorded in Australia.

“That’s a crazy reading — I’ve never heard of one that high,’’ Professor Jake Najman, from the University of Queensland’s Alcohol and Drug Research and Education Centre, said after Bisson’s arrest.

“You’re reaching the point of being comatose at 0.3 so by 0.4 you should be out of it completely, if not close to dead.’’

Bisson had her case adjourned until February 17.

Neither she nor her lawyer would comment to the media outside court.
