Tourism NT highlights unique Territory events in new campaign

From glitz and glamour in the outback to a motoring event renowned for mullets, a new tourism campaign aims to shine a light on the Territory’s most wacky and wonderful events.

Territorians will agree we do things differently, from the Top End to the Red Centre.

It is our unique culture, climate and character the government hopes to hook tourists with this year.

The new national campaign ”Events that bring different” launches on Monday and focuses on seven distinctive fairs and festivals to lure interstate visitors.

They include drag and cabaret festival fabALICE and the free 10-night Parrtjima: A Festival in Light, both in Alice Springs across March and April.

Also highlighting Central Australia is Red CentreNATS, the ultimate festival of wheels across the first weekend of September, before Desert Song Festival draws a crowd later in the month.

In the Top End the campaign will shine a light on BASSINTHEGRASS, Mindil Beach’s nationally renown and award-winning music festival, as well as Darwin Festival and the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair in August.

Marketing strategies will include planning tools and travel packages to entice tourists to stay in the Territory longer and explore more of our regions.

The campaign runs until June 30.

Tourism and Hospitality Minister Nicole Manison said the NT was home to “Australia’s most unique and unforgettable” events.

“Whether it’s experiencing our authentic Aboriginal art and culture, or attending our music and film festivals, the NT has so much to offer our visitors,” she said.

“This campaign is designed to highlight the breadth of unique events the Territory has to offer and motivate Australians to book a trip to the Territory to experience our distinctive, world class offerings.

“A calendar of iconic events creates a thriving tourism industry, boosting our economy and local jobs.”

Territory event organisers are encouraged to list and update their events on the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse to have them included on Tourism NT’s online events portal.
